The short version
- The AI Archetype runs in your browser. Your answers are never sent to us.
- If you subscribe or ask for the Starter, we keep your email address. For the Starter, we also keep your archetype and the area to start with.
- We use Kit to send email, ThriveCart to take payments, and Hostinger to host the site. We don’t sell your information or use it for advertising.
- You can unsubscribe in one click, and you can ask us to see or delete what we hold.
Who we are
Line of Ascent is a publication and small business founded and run by Kathleen Goble in California, United States. It operates lineofascent.com. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Line of Ascent.
This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, take the AI Archetype, subscribe, buy a course, or write to us. It also explains how we use that information and the choices you have.
What we collect
When you subscribe
Your email address, and your name if you choose to give it.
When you ask for the AI Archetype Starter
Your email address and two short results from the assessment: your archetype (for example, “Appraiser”) and the area your answers pointed to first (for example, “change over time”). We use them to send the right Starter and to tailor the short email series that follows. We do not receive your individual answers. See The AI Archetype below.
When you buy a course
Checkout is handled by our payment processor, ThriveCart. We receive your name, email address, and the details of your purchase. We never receive or store your full card number.
When you write to us
Your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.
Collected automatically
- Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting server records basic technical information when a page loads: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the time. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure.
- Email activity. Our email service records delivery and may record opens and link clicks. We use this information to understand email performance and to act on choices you make by clicking, such as stopping a series.
The AI Archetype
The assessment runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are never sent to us, and we cannot see or retrieve them.
- While you take it, your answers are kept in your browser’s session storage so a refresh doesn’t lose your place. They normally clear when you close the tab. Choosing Start again clears them right away.
- No email address is needed to see your result.
The assessment itself sends us nothing. Only if you ask for the Starter do we receive your email address, your archetype, and the area your answers pointed to first.
How we use your information
- To send what you asked for: the weekly article, the AI Archetype Starter, and anything you buy.
- To send the five-email series that follows the Starter. It explains your result and describes the Patriot’s Personal AI Constitution course. You can stop the series at any time and keep the weekly article.
- To answer your messages.
- To process purchases and give you access to what you bought.
- To understand whether the site and emails are useful, so we can improve them.
- To meet legal, tax, security, and recordkeeping obligations.
Cookies and tracking
The site does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics. The only browser storage it uses is the session storage described in The AI Archetype.
Other services have their own practices. ThriveCart may use cookies on its checkout pages, and email open and click tracking works as described above. If we ever add analytics to the site, we will update this policy first.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers that run parts of Line of Ascent for us, and only as needed to do that work: Kit (email delivery and subscriber records), ThriveCart (payments and checkout), and Hostinger (website hosting).
- Legal reasons, when we must comply with the law, respond to a lawful request, or protect our rights, our readers, or the public.
- A business transfer. If Line of Ascent is ever sold or merged, personal information may transfer as part of that, subject to this policy and applicable law.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
- Stop the AI Archetype series with the link in its footer. You’ll keep the weekly article.
- Update your preferences with the link in any email.
- Ask to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing kathleen@lineofascent.com.
Depending on where you live, including California, the law may give you more rights, such as the right to know what we collect and to have it deleted. We honor those requests as the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for making one.
How long we keep it
- AI Archetype answers: never kept by us. They remain only in your browser’s session storage for that page session.
- Subscriber information: for as long as you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe, our email service keeps a record of your address so it can honor that choice.
- Purchase records: for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Server logs: for a limited period, then deleted.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No website or email system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise absolute security. If a problem affects your information, we will act promptly and notify you where the law requires.
Children
Line of Ascent is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Visitors outside the United States
Line of Ascent operates from the United States. If you use the site from another country, your information will be processed in the United States and wherever our service providers operate.
Links to other sites
The site links to services we don’t control, including Substack, ThriveCart, Amazon, X, and Truth Social. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
Changes to this policy
When our practices or the services we use change, we will update this policy and the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will give notice where appropriate or required.
